Can I attend a group before I join Woking Area u3a to find out if I like it first?
Yes, you can have one taster session after which you will need to join if you want to continue.

How old do I have to be to join the u3a?
There is no lower or upper age limit. You just have to be not in full-time employment.

I have a friend who wants to join but they don’t have internet access. How will he know what’s going on?
They can apply by post – either contact the membership phone line or you could download an application form off the website. They will then be sent The Guide for Members booklet, which has telephone numbers for making contact. In addition, they can ask someone to help them with the internet perhaps receiving emails on their behalf.

Both my partner and I want to join the u3a. Do we get a discount on membership for living at the same address?
We have a very low membership fee, so don’t offer any further discount.

I want to join part way through the year. Is this at a discounted rate?
We have a very low membership fee, so don’t offer any further discount.

I am a lapsed member but would like to re-join. Do I make a new member application or renew?
We prefer you to renew. That way you avoid having a duplicate record.

How do I know if a group I am interested in joining has vacancies?
Contact the group leader. If the group is full, they should put you on a waiting list. Failing that, call the general enquiries number on 01483 323503.

Can I join a group as soon as I have joined the organisation?
You can join as many groups as you like as soon as you have received your membership card.

I am in a wheelchair and I have a carer. Will I be able to join in?
We try to ensure all our venues are accessible. For meetings in members’ private homes, please enquire with the Group Leader. Likewise for trips out, you will need to ask the organiser. Carers can accompany members free of charge.

I’d like to join groups in more than one area u3a. Can I do this and if so, what do I need to do?
You will need to join each separate u3a. Some offer a discount if you join as an ‘associate member’ but we don’t, owing to our very low subscription fee. Each u3a offers you a subscription to the Third Age Trust magazine ‘u3a matters’. If you only want one copy then indicate that you want this just the once!

I’d like to help but I don’t know in what capacity. I don’t have any specific skill to teach a group. Where do I go from here?
Volunteering can take many forms from becoming a committee member to making cups of tea. Some help the u3a in general, others help a specific group. For more details, go to https://wokingareau3a.co.uk/about/volunteering/ or contact the general enquiries telephone line on 01483 323503 to discuss possibilities.

How long do I have to be in the u3a before I can start a group or perhaps become a committee member?
You can start volunteering as soon as you join and we encourage new members to do this.

You don’t have the activity that I really want to do. Do you have a list of potential groups for the future that it might be on?
No, but you can suggest a new group at any time. Our Groups Co-ordinator will guide you through the process.

Who is in charge of the u3a?
The committee members are all trustees responsible for ensuring that we comply with the law and manage the finances appropriately.

My question isn’t answered here. Who can I contact?
